The group Dem Franchize Boyz was signed to Universal Records in 2004 after performing unsigned.
Universal released the group's self-titled debut album in September of that
year. The album lone single, "White Tee," reached #79 on the
Billboard Hot 100.So So Def/Virgin Records' Atlanta-based foursome Dem Franchize Boyz are the latest of hip-hop's young players to come from Jermaine
Dupri and the So So Def family with a
fresh new regional sound to storm the national scene.
In 2005, record producer Jermaine
Dupri signed Dem Franchize Boyz to his label So So Def. That year they released
"I Think They Like Me," the first single off their Platinum selling
second album, "On Top of Our Game". which was
released February 7, 2006 that proved the staying power of DFB as a self-contained
performing and production unit, while maintaining the fast-growing spread of
the club-oriented "Snap" music. This album also broke the Guinness
Book of World Records by being the first group to receive plaques on ring tone
sales alone by selling more than five million ring tones with four of their hit
tracks. Early 2006 the group also was rewarded with massive televised attention
on MTV’s “Generation Hip Hop”, MTV 2’s “Monster Mix: Hip Hop” and “MTV Cribs”
it was official: their buzz had reached the masses.
The single became a Top 15 hit on
the Hot 100, and was also a #1 single on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs as well
as the Hot Rap Tracks chart. In January, caught in the updraft of online song
sales spawned by the sale of over 14 million iPods and other digital players in
the holiday season, the single re-bulleted to No. 21 in its 18th week on the
Billboard Hot 100, as download sales of the song tripled in the first week of
2006. DFB earned a Platinum award for the snap music anthem "Lean Wit It,
Rock Wit It" and a Gold award for the smash "I Think They Like
Me." “Ridin' Rims," also became Billboard
"Hot Ringtones" charting the top #10. Dem Franchize Boyz was one of
the only groups to have two #1 singles back to back.
According to many on the underground
scene, "Snap" music was the hottest and latest irresistible southern
hip-hop variant to explode out of Atlanta, under the influence of its diverse
African-American community -- from the toughest ghetto streets to its celebrity-studded
suburbs. Working along side with there Manager | Producer Antonio “TopcaT” Randolph Manager | and Eddie Weathers there A&R
Director developing the project and creating the “Snap” movement. The first
national "Snap" hits by DFB (and such other breakout Southern stars
Dem Franchize Boyz were immediately spotted as trendsetters that countered the
slick, loud, Eighties-inspired synthesizer hooks of "crunk" with
sparse, almost empty tracks of drums, finger snaps and elemental title chants.
The tricky implied polyrhythms of
"Snap" music also inspired new dances, spreading authentic club
culture through DFB's videos and performances. DFB were on view in the first week
of January for the premiere of "Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It" video on
BET's "106th and Park"; they have also taped a February appearance on
MTV's "Nick Cannon Presents Wild 'N Out," and will host MTV2's
"Sucker-Free Sundays" in early February. DFB are also to be featured
in a performance with Jermaine Dupri on the newly-launched DIRECTV weekend
music show, CD USA.
The second DFB 2006 single, "Lean Wit It, Rock Wit
It" followed and was already breaking out with support from clubs, video
play on BET and MTV/MTV2, streamed video play on MTV.com and MTV2.com, and in
sharply increased online digital download sales. Dem Franchize Boyz made network
appearance on ABC's late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live." DFB
also made their debut appearance on MTV's Total Request Live. DFB in 2007 have
also been featured in an ongoing national cross-marketing campaign with Champs
Sports stores, encompassing live performances, a commercial running in Champs
stores and on local MTV and BET stations, and Champs sponsorship of DFB sport
apparel.
In the fall of 2008 the group
completed and released their third album “Our world, are way”. It has been (5)
years since Dem Franchize Boyz has not been on the scene due to extreme
collective events in their lifes from a near death situation, health scare and
actual deaths in the family which caused a set back for the group. In 2013 the
group decided to get back to living out there dreams. DFB decided to add a
member that was always on the road that was one of the features on the hit
record "Lean Wit it Rock Wit it" featuring "P-Nut"
(DeAngelo Hunt). He is not a stranger to the music business.
On Feb. 23, 2013 Dem Franchize Boyz reunited with CEO Jermaine Dupri at the So So Def 20th
Anniversary Reunion Concert. The Fox Theatre was alive with the
sounds of classic songs like “Money Ain’t a Thang” (JD & Jay-Z), “Jump”
(Kris Kross), “Yeah” (Usher, Ludacris, Lil Jon), “Who Can I Run To” (Xscape),
“I Gotta Be” (Jagged Edge), “Welcome to Atlanta” (JD, Ludacris), “Give It 2 U”
(Da Brat), “I Think They Like Me” (Dem Franchize Boyz), “Coming From Where I’m
From” (Anthony Hamilton) and many more. After the
concert Dem Franchize Boyz decided to rebuild and reinvent their team
and career. They currently have been in talks with previous Manager | Platinum Producer Antonio “TopcaT” Randolph, Grammy nominated Producer | Manager J Preston | JManagement and
several concert promoters. They are also working on DFB international tour,
radio and video outlets nationwide. DFB is now currently in the studio working
on their 4th album for there long and die hard fans that has always supported
them since 2004.
